Hello I’m Kevin Hughes and I’ve just taken on Cally Gardens. I’ve been here two weeks now and am still awed by the amazing collection of plants in the garden.
It was a bit daunting to open so soon but I had lots of encouragement from so many people to do so, and so I gave in. The gardens have seen 7 days of intensive tidying and weeding by myself and the amazing Tracy and Alison who’ve kept the place alive for the period following Michael's tragic demise. We’ve also been helped by the volunteers from Scottish Rock, Plant Heritage and the Fleet Valley Volunteers and to them in particular I’d like to offer my heartfelt thanks, we couldn’t have got there without you! It’s been worth it. Despite neeeding a huge amount of work still, the gardens are a picture. Key plants such as Paeonia and Paris are flowering freely and seven days from the day we started, Meconopisis Calily Purple opened its first flower.
